Kate T Parker Visits

Kate T Parker is the author of the blockbuster bestseller Strong Is The New Pretty, a gorgeous and inspiring photographic celebration of girls being themselves…fearless, silly, wild, stubborn, proud, fierce. It garnered outstanding media attention and support from everyone from the Spice Girls and David Beckham, to Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman, and Emma Watson. Kate inspires kids to challenge their notions of what it means to be a girl and how to embrace themselves as they are rather than what society tells them they should be. Kate’s new book, The Heart of a Boy: Celebrating the Strength and Spirit of Boyhood, helps to positively redefine masculinity at a moment when the country is focused on how to raise our boys to become good people. The book is a photographic celebration of the many ways to be a boy—a boy’s heart is kind, a boy’s heart is independent, a boy’s heart is curious, a boy’s heart is resilient.

The Reading Bug is thrilled to bring this event to your school.

Books Available for Purchase:

A celebration of strong girls in more than 150 photographs from an acclaimed photographer who has colloborated with such brands as Althleta, Kellogg's, Oxygen, and Girls on the Run. From yoginis to skateboarders to cancer survivors to valedictorians, these portraits of girls ages 5-18, being themselves, prove that female strength is more than just muscles; it's being confident, creative, determined, fearless, independent, curious, joyful, kind, resilient, and wild. Beautiful is being yourself and finding strength in THAT beauty. The minimal text features quotes from each girl pictured. Wonderful, thought-provoking and discussion-starting images.

The boy-themed follow-up to the celebrated and bestselling Strong is the New Pretty! A timely, important, and necessary book for our times. This is about what it really means to be a boy: strong, caring, kind, respectful, vulnerable, sensitive, and in touch with his emotions.

Like the first book, this features the amazing photographs of Kate T. Parker, coupled with quotes from each boy. We think everyone will agree that Sammy, the boy on the cover, is super cute and sweet, and perfectly captures the feeling of this book.

An interactive, full-color guided journal for every strong girl! Inside it has some lined pages, some blank pages, and is lightly illustrated with images from the original book and 20 new photographs never seen before! Includes elastic band and ribbon marker. Each page features an inspiring prompt to inspire writing, thinking, drawing, and doing. Ages 8-12.

As it is filled in, the journal will become a keepsake for girls to return to and enjoy for years to come, looking back upon who they were and who they have become.
