Chinese Culture storytime with Author Eugenia Chu!

Sunday, August 12, 2018 - 11:00am

Learn a little bit about Chinese culture with Author Eugenia Chu!  Brandon Makes Jiǎo Zi (餃子) is a story about a young boy who bonds with his grandma from China while making Chinese dumplings, called jiǎo zi (餃子), and includes some conversational Mandarin Chinese.

In addition to the reading, there will be arts and crafts and prizes, too!  The kids will be able to make beautiful and creative bookmarks!  There will also be coloring sheets for the little ones as well as Chinese number worksheets – a fun way to get in some practice before school starts!  The author will also teach/practice a few Chinese words with your children and will award all participants with little prizes!

Eugenia Chu is an attorney, turned stay-at-home mom, turned writer.  She is a first generation Chinese-American and lives in Miami Beach with her husband and son, Brandon, who is the inspiration for her stories.  When Brandon was very little, the author couldn’t find children’s storybooks to read to him which touched upon Chinese culture and which included some Chinese (Mandarin) words to teach and/or reinforce his Chinese vocabulary, so she started writing her own.  This is the first “Brandon” story.
