In his 35 years as a travel journalist, he has written about small ship cruises of Alaska for The New York Times, sheep-herding trials in Ireland for The Washington Post, and driving through the American Southwest for National Geographic Traveler, where he was a contributing editor. He lives in Los Angeles, where he regularly hikes with his wife and his Labrador Retriever, Marcy.
