Does Motherhood Make You Stupid? (or Make You Think Smarter?)A talk and book-signing with Dr. Joanne Stern, family psychotherapist, and author of "Parenting Is A Contact Sport: 8 Ways To Stay Connected To Your Kids for Life" Summary: Do you feel like your brain cells are slowly dying every day you spend with your kids? If so, you're not the only mom who fears that parenting is making you stupid. But don't despair. Motherhood is not a gap in your resume or a recess from learning. Call it an alternate MBA—mindful moms can learn to utilize their parenting time as a powerful training ground that will help them not just survive, but thrive—and become more effective and successful both at home and at work. Description: Dr Joanne Stern will address the inherent multiple roles of women and acknowledge the potential chaos and stress of wearing several different hats each day. She will show both working moms and stay at home moms how to think differently about the day to day grind of parenting, which will benefit your kids and will increase your confidence that you are also valuable in your workplace. In an informal, sensitive and supportive environment, Joanne will give examples of specific leadership skills you can hone and strengthen with your kids that will make you a better mom and also a better manager. She encourages questions and participation. Parents will learn:

  • How the reality of multiple roles and the game of juggling affects women
  • Why building trust is an essential skill both at home and at work
  • How to improve your communication with your kids and with people at work
  • Why empowering others is one of the most important qualities of a good leader and a good mom
  • How to re-create your resume that will knock the sox off your future employer and impress even yourself.
